From Oakland to New Orleans: Anthony’s Top 5 NOLA Restaurant Picks

From Oakland to New Orleans: Anthony’s Top 5 NOLA Restaurant Picks

When it comes to real estate, Anthony knows Oakland, Piedmont, and Berkeley like the back of his hand. But if there’s one place that holds a special place in his heart outside of the Bay Area, it’s New Orleans—a city bursting with culture, music, and, of course, unforgettable food.

Inspired by his love for Mardi Gras and Creole flavors, Anthony has even decorated his home with New Orleans flair. So, if you’re visiting The Big Easy, here are his top five restaurant picks to experience the best of NOLA’s legendary cuisine.

1. Clancy’s

📍 Uptown New Orleans

A classic white-tablecloth spot where locals go for butter-soft veal, crispy fried oysters, and rich crabmeat-topped fish. Don’t be fooled by its unassuming exterior—inside, you’ll find impeccable service, perfectly chilled martinis, and some of the best Creole flavors in town.

For a fine-dining experience with a Southern twist, August is the place to be. Think handmade potato gnocchi with blue crab, slow-roasted meats, and decadent desserts in an elegant 19th-century building. It’s refined yet deeply rooted in New Orleans tradition.

3. Peche Seafood Grill

📍 Warehouse District

If you love fresh seafood, Peche is a must. This James Beard Award-winning spot is known for its whole grilled fish, smoked tuna dip, and bold, simple flavors that let the Gulf’s freshest catches shine. Anthony’s favorite standbys? A bowl of seafood gumbo and crispy fried catfish sticks—classic, comforting, and full of flavor.

4. Parkway Bakery & Tavern

📍 Mid-City

No trip to NOLA is complete without a Po’ Boy, and Parkway is legendary for them. Whether you go for the classic roast beef dripping with gravy or the crispy fried shrimp, you can't go wrong. Anthony does both in his Po’ Boy—roast beef topped with fried shrimp for the ultimate indulgence. This spot has been feeding locals and visitors since 1911, and there’s a reason why people keep coming back.

5. Joey K’s

📍 Uptown New Orleans

For a laid-back lunch with serious comfort food, Joey K’s is the place. Fried chicken every day, red beans & rice on Mondays—that’s just how it’s done here. Pro tip: Get there early (around 11:15 AM) or be prepared to join the waitlist.

Bonus: Galatoire’s – A New Orleans Tradition

📍 French Quarter

No list would be complete without Galatoire’s. Over 100 years old, this fine-dining institution is where tradition reigns supreme—so much so that men must wear jackets at dinner. Even Jerry Seinfeld wasn’t exempt when he showed up without one! Anthony and his family have had the same waiter for 30 years, with his father serving them before that. If you love old-school hospitality, this is New Orleans at its finest.

Mardi Gras at Anthony’s House

🎭 Mardi Gras is Tuesday, March 4th. All parades and partying stop at midnight on March 4th, making way for Ash Wednesday.

To bring the spirit of NOLA to the Bay Area, Anthony hosts an annual Mardi Gras Dinner, featuring:

🥚 Muffuletta Deviled Eggs – A festive spin on a classic, packed with olive salad and cured meats.
🍲 Anthony’s Louisiana Fresh Shrimp and Oyster Gumbo – Rich, deep flavors simmered to perfection, just like in the French Quarter.
🍰 King Cake – No Mardi Gras is complete without this iconic, cinnamon-filled cake. Who will find the hidden baby and get good luck for the year?
