|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every month that begins at 12:00am on day First of the month, repeating indefinitely

Free
Berkeley Art Museum

The newly erected Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive offers free admission every first Thursday of the month. Enjoy the eclectic exhibitions, film screenings, performance art, quiet study areas and more. After the Bancroft Way location was deemed seismically unsafe in 1997, UC Berkeley began planning and fundraising for their new museum and film archive on Center Street where the Cal campus meets downtown Berkeley. The new space bridges old—the new structure integrates a 48,000-square-foot 1939 Art Deco–style building, formerly the UC Berkeley printing plant—with a newly built stainless steel curvilineal structure conceived by New York-based architectural firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Current exhibits include Hippie Modernism: The Struggle For Utopia, Slow Reading/Slow Seeing, Michael Armitage: Paintings, Andy Warhol: Still Lifes and Portraits and Buddhist Arts from the Roof of the World: Transmission of the Dharma. Along with a very impressive exhibition schedule, BAMPFA’s film screenings brings a variety of classic and new, independent film to the public. Check the BAMPFA calendar for complete schedule.
